A Hospital on the Border โ A Call to Heal Getashen
Nestled on the fragile border between Armenia and Turkey, Getashen Hospital stands as a lifeline for three neighboring villages. The only thing separating this hospital from Turkey is the Aras Riverโa symbolic and physical reminder of the resilience of the Armenian people.
Built in 2001, Getashen Hospital serves as a critical healthcare lifeline for over 4,200 people across two villages, including Getashen and Berqashat. But over the years, it has remained drastically under-equipped and in severe disrepair. During our visit last year, our hearts broke seeing the conditions in which our peopleโour parents, grandparents, childrenโwere being treated. Rusted doors, broken windows, crumbling walls, no proper heating, and barely functioning plumbing. No one deserves this, especially not those who rely on this hospital as their only option for medical care.
Thatโs why United Armenian Diaspora has taken on the mission to restore Getashen Hospital and give the people the dignified and safe healthcare facility they deserve.
